The following list shows Pente Net's top 20 players. See below for an explanation of how scores are calculated.
How are scores calculated? The scores on Pente Net are a measure of which players win the most games. It is a very simple measurement, and has limited usefulness. A better measure of skill is a player's winning percentage. The two measurements are explained below. SCORE: For every game you win, you are awarded 100 points. You also receive between 1 and 100 points based upon your percentage of wins. For instance, if you win half of the games you play, your percentage of wins is 50% -- so you receive 50 points. The percentage is calculated from the number of games you've won divided by the total number of games you've completed. Unfinished games are not counted. Example: a player who has won 3 games and lost 1 game has a score of 375: 300 points from the wins, plus an overall 75 points for winning 75% of her games. If she wins the next game, she will have a score of 480: 400 points from her wins, plus an overall 80 points for winning 80% of her games. If in the next game after this she were to lose, her score would drop to 467, reflecting her new overall 67% winning percentage. This scoring method attempts to ensure that the player who plays -- and wins -- the most games comes out on top. If two players have the same number of wins, then the player with the least number of losses ranks higher. Additionally, a player does not receive any points until she or he wins one game. PERCENTAGE: Because the score is not useful for determining skill, ordering the list by winning percentages can be helpful. The percentage of wins is calculated by dividing the number of games a player has won by the total number of games that player has completed. Unfinished games, and games that end in a tie, do not influence this percentage. Although you only need win one game to have a score, you need to complete at least 20 games before you will be listed on the percentage-sorted list. The reasoning behind this is that after 20 or so games, your winning percentage will be more accurate than the results of the first several games would have shown.
